Molly Manners' Extra Geography Debuts at Sundance
Collider reports that Extra Geography, the debut feature from director Molly Manners, had its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
The coming-of-age dramedy follows best friends Minna (Marni Duggan) and Flic (Galaxie Clear) at an all-girls English boarding school who decide one summer to “fall in love,” targeting their geography teacher, Miss Delavigne (Alice Englert), and confronting new complications when boys join the school play of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Miriam Battye wrote the screenplay, based on a short story by Rose Tremain, with cinematography by Andrew Commis and color work by Simone Grattarola.
Reviews praised Manners’ direction, the film’s painterly frames and the chemistry of Duggan and Clear, and likened the aesthetics to The Holdovers and the style of Wes Anderson. Criticisms noted in the report include occasionally overly quirky dialogue and an ending that some found unsatisfying.
The film is listed with a January 23, 2026 release date and a 94-minute runtime, and the premiere at Sundance serves as its first major public screening.
