The Monsterverse established Godzilla and Kong as its cornerstones, but the films left a large span of Kong's life unshown between Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters appears set to address that gap, with the second season shifting attention toward the titan's untold history.

The series has already threaded its story through the franchise, opening season one by tracing Monarch's origins back to 1952 and linking directly to Skull Island. While the first season gave Godzilla more screen time, Season 2’s premiere features several Kong-heavy moments, including an encounter with Titan X and fallout from Kong attacking an Apex facility at the end of Season 1.

Films established some reasons for Kong’s change in circumstances—King Ghidorah’s storms damaged Skull Island and the island was later enclosed in a dome—yet much of the intervening period was glossed over.
