Morocco have undergone a shock managerial change just months before the 2026 World Cup. Legend Walid Regragui has stepped down, making way for Under-20 boss Mohamed Ouahbi. The federation confirmed Regragui's departure less than 100 days before the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists kick off their campaign in North America, following a period of immense pressure on the man who became a national icon in Qatar.

In a swift move to ensure stability, the federation promoted Ouahbi to the senior role. He arrives after a highly successful tenure with the youth teams, most notably guiding Morocco's U-20 team to the 2025 U-20 World Cup title. Speaking at a late-night press conference alongside federation president Fouzi Lekjaa, Regragui said his exit was fuelled by a desire to see the national team evolve.
