Morris calls Vinicius-to-Chelsea a 'fairytale' as Real weigh contract talks
Goal reports former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris called a move for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior to Chelsea a "fairytale shout", saying the 25-year-old is "too old" for the club's owners who prefer to focus on youth and potential. Vinicius is approaching the final year of his Real contract, and extended terms are not being ruled out as Madrid plan fresh talks following the relief of Xabi Alonso from his coaching duties.
The Brazil international has been giving little away, with lucrative offers said to have been readied in the Saudi Pro League while heavyweight teams in England are reported to have him on their radar. Morris told AceOdds he admires Vinicius—"Personally, I love Vini Jr. I thought he was outstanding in the Supercopa de Espana.
What a goal, the one he scored. He had [Jules] Kounde on toast, didn't he?"—but added: "Personally, would I want to sign him? Yeah. But I think he's too old for this ownership. I know he's 25 but he's 25 going on 26." He described a move as "a good shout but it's a fairytale shout." Morris also addressed reports that Chelsea could seek a new first-choice goalkeeper in summer 2026, with AC Milan's Mike Maignan said to be of interest as he approaches free agency.
