Polygon reports that on Jan. 15, 2026 Wizards of the Coast published four new subclasses as Unearthed Arcana playtest materials for Dungeons & Dragons. The Mystic Subclasses — Warrior of the Mystic Arts (Monk), Oath of the Spellguard (Paladin), Magic Stealer (Rogue), and Vestige Patron (Warlock) — are new to 5e rather than retunes.

The UA materials say they “explore new ways to wield, counter, steal, and bargain with magic,” and an official D&D Beyond blog post adds they “combine magic and martial prowess, prey on or protect spellcasters, and commune with eldritch beings that seek to return from death.” Each subclass alters how spellcasting interacts with combat.

Vestige Patron grants a companion vestige with its own stat block and Divine Powers tied to creature type; celestial vestiges gain Healing Touch and the subclass can access Cleric spells. Magic Stealer absorbs spells to empower Sneak Attack, can redirect magic to allies to recover spell slots, uses Drain Magic to take ongoing effects by touch (upgraded to a bonus action at level 13), and gains a level 17 Eldritch Implosion that can force a Constitution save to dissipate a spell and stun.
