Nagelsmann questions Anton Stach's fit but backs Havertz and Musiala
Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has warned that club status will not guarantee a place in his World Cup plans, saying team chemistry and specific tactical profiles matter more than reputation as the squad prepares for friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana.
Leeds United midfielder Anton Stach, enjoying a productive Premier League debut with four goals and three assists in 23 appearances, drew particular scrutiny. Nagelsmann noted physical and defensive concerns: Stach is “not exceptionally strong in the air and not top in recoveries,” prefers the game in front of him, and was at his best in Hoffenheim’s central role in a back three where he could drop into defensive midfield.
A return to the international side for the upcoming friendlies is far from guaranteed. There was better news for Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Bayern’s Jamal Musiala, both described as central to Nagelsmann’s plans.
