Blood found at Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home led investigators to treat her disappearance as a violent kidnapping. Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of NBC journalist and TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie, vanished overnight; authorities say she was likely taken from her home after a violent encounter.

Investigators found blood spatter at the entrance of her Catalina Foothills residence near Tucson, and forensic testing confirmed the blood belonged to Nancy Guthrie. Family members last saw her the evening of January 31 after dropping her home; she missed church the next morning and left behind her phone, wallet, car and medication.

Deputies also discovered her doorbell camera had been removed or disabled. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, with FBI assistance, is leading the probe; no suspects have been named and there is no proof of life.
