According to People, General Hospital actress Nancy Lee Grahn wrote on Threads that she refused to watch Jimmy Kimmel Live! when Carrie Underwood appeared on the Jan. 23 episode. Grahn, 69, posted "See ya next week @jimmykimmel" and "I refuse to even look at @carrieunderwood" after Underwood appeared on the show alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to discuss season 24 of American Idol.

Underwood performed "America the Beautiful" inside the Capitol Rotunda during President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2025; "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," she said in a statement at the time.

In the comments on Grahn’s post, comedian Kathy Griffin wrote, "Yeah, no love for maga Carrie. It’s not just about political disagreements." The report also notes fans previously speculated that Underwood's 2018 song "The Bullet" had political overtones, and Underwood told The Guardian in 2019 that she tries to "stay far out of politics" because "nobody wins" and issues are not "black and white." After the comments drew attention, Grahn emphasized she was not slamming Kimmel, writing, "I LOVE Jimmy Kimmel & watch him every night.
