Naomi Girma scored her first Chelsea goal in extra time as the Blues beat Manchester United 2-1 to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals. Sam Kerr had looked to have won it with a late second-half strike, but Simi Awujo's quick reply forced extra time before Girma sealed the victory.

Chelsea produced a stronger performance after a run of difficult results, controlling large periods and creating several chances. United keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce kept her side in the game with key saves from Alyssa Thompson, Erin Cuthbert and Lauren James, and Dominique Janssen also cleared off the line in the first half.

United grew into the match in the second period, with Jess Park striking the frame and other efforts from Lisa Naalsund and Melvine Malard going close. The decisive moment came nine minutes into extra time when Girma prodded home from a set-piece after Tullis-Joyce had first denied Veerle Buurman.
