Iranian authorities have sentenced Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi to another prison term before she had completed her previous sentence, her family and lawyers said. The Narges Foundation said she was tried in a new case and given more than seven and a half years for “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the Islamic Republic Regime,” bringing the total she must serve to 17 years, Chirinne Ardakani, a human rights lawyer with the foundation, said.

Ms. Mohammadi ended a six-day hunger strike on Sunday after being hospitalized amid deteriorating health, the foundation said. She began the strike to protest what she called unlawful detention and a lack of access to medical care. She had been granted a medical furlough in 2024 but was arrested in late December at a memorial in Mashhad; the new sentence covered actions during that furlough.

After the arrest she told her family she had been beaten and briefly hospitalized.
