On 16 January 2026 NASA announced updates to the ROSES-25 D.5 Astrophysics Pioneers solicitation, moving the mandatory notice of intent deadline to 11 February 2026 and the full proposal deadline to 2 April 2026.

D.5 solicits proposals for astrophysics space and sub‑orbital investigations that are larger in cost, scope and capability than those supported by the Astrophysics Research and Analysis suborbital and CubeSat program but smaller than what the Astrophysics Explorers Mission of Opportunity program can support (for example, PEA Q of SALMON-3 in 2021). Eligible platforms include CubeSats (including constellations), other SmallSats, and major balloon missions. Technology development within proposed projects is allowed, but the primary review criterion is the merit of the proposed science investigation.

The announcement says ROSES-2025 Amendment 38 both delays the due dates and makes three small changes to Section 5.3; the amendment indicates new text is in bold and deleted text is struck through. Programmatic questions about D.5 should be directed to Pablo Saz Parkinson at pablo.sazparkinson@nasa.gov.
