Naya launches Connect modular keyboard on Kickstarter
Naya has announced the Connect, a low-profile modular keyboard that is launching on Kickstarter. Naya told ZDNET it plans to list the device on the brand's official website once crowdfunding has met its numbers.
ZDNET's hands-on with the Connect at CES found it to be lightweight and tactile, with responsive key travel. The flat, matte keys are hot-swappable and fully mechanical using Kailh Choc V2 switches; the keyboard is built with an aluminum unibody and uses Naya's precision input modules.
The Connect ships in multiple parts that attach and detach via magnetic snap connectors on both sides, allowing custom layouts such as a left-side number pad or a right-side key line. Connectable components include a 24-key multipad and a six-key expansion strip, and the keyboard is compatible with Naya's existing modules, including a trackball, touchpad, tune dial and a "Float" module for 3D work.
Naya is offering the Connect for $99 during a promotional period, with an expected retail price of $189; the Multipad is listed at $69 and the six-key component at $49 for early backers, and each module is sold individually, Naya says. Naya said it targets coding professionals, business users and creators, and that while the Connect could appeal to gamers its subdued aesthetic is better suited to the office.
