Terry Gannon and Mary Carillo acknowledged Savannah Guthrie’s absence during NBC’s Opening Ceremonies telecast from Milan, saying the network was “without a very important and beloved member” and that Guthrie is “dearly missed.” Carillo added that amid the desperate search for her mother, Savannah has an “extended family” at NBC, and Gannon said they sent “love and prayers and all of our positive energy.” Shaun White joined them on air.

Guthrie withdrew from co‑hosting after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing following a family outing at her Tucson home and was reported missing when she failed to appear at church the next morning. The family issued an emotional plea asking for “proof of life,” and colleagues including Hoda Kotb expressed a feeling of helplessness; Kotb has also since pulled out of Olympics duties.
