NBC's 13M-Viewer Sleeper Hit Is a Reminder Hits Don't Have to Be Sci-Fi
NBC's new comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins has reached nearly 13 million viewers after its early broadcast premiere, a reminder that big TV hits don't have to be sci-fi. The first episode aired after the NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears and drew an initial audience of 5.8 million; delayed viewing on Peacock and other platforms pushed the total close to 13 million over 50 days.
The series stars Tracy Morgan as a disgraced former NFL star who hires Oscar-winning filmmaker Arthur Tobin (Daniel Radcliffe) to make a documentary about his life, only for their visions to clash. Co-created by Sam Means and Robert Carlock and executive produced by Tina Fey, it has stood out as NBC's highest-profile new show of the season.
Built around a mockumentary format, the show leans on the odd-couple pairing of Morgan and Radcliffe and gives the production crew a central role in the plot.
