NebiOS offers a Google Workspace alternative — with one caveat
NebiOS stands out by pairing a polished desktop UI called NebiDE with the Wayfire compositor, which runs on Wayland. The desktop environment is modular, lightweight and highly customizable, letting users tweak appearance and add plugins. NebiOS also integrates with NebiCloud, which uses Nextcloud as a UI to create a Google Workspace alternative that includes files, calendar, photos, activity, contacts, phonetrack, notes, music, announcements, forms, TV shows, tasks, podcasts, a password manager and more.
The one major concern is NebiCloud itself. Free accounts offer 10GB of storage, but information about pricing, current development status and exact versions in use is sparse. The project’s GitLab showed activity in 2024, yet public details are limited, so connecting NebiOS to NebiCloud should be approached with caution and is not recommended.
NebiDE made a strong first impression, feeling like a mix of Hyprland and KDE Plasma with a dash of GNOME; the app launcher in particular resembles GNOME.
