Neil Warnock returns at 77 to take interim charge of Torquay United

Neil Warnock has come out of retirement again at the age of 77 to take interim charge of seventh-tier Torquay United after the dismissal of Paul Wotton. He will lead the Gulls as they push for promotion. Warnock had officially confirmed his retirement in April 2024 following a brief interim spell with Aberdeen, but has been working as a football advisor at Torquay for the past two years.

The club, currently fourth in the league, turned to a familiar face to maintain momentum while they seek stability. His managerial record is one of the most notable in the English game: he holds the all-time record for the most promotions, guiding eight different teams up the leagues.

Highlights include leading Sheffield United to the Premier League in 2006 and promotion campaigns with Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City and successful spells at Crystal Palace. The arrangement has been described as temporary.
