Movieweb reports Netflix unveiled a preview of its 2026 film and TV slate on Jan. 7, and the timing appears to undercut a viral fan theory that a secret ninth episode of Stranger Things would arrive that day.

The sizzle reel includes Millie Bobby Brown in footage promoting Enola Holmes 3 and a first-look image, and showcases returning series such as Lupin, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and The Gentleman, romances Bridgerton and Emily in Paris, and thrillers including Here Comes the Flood and Apex. The preview also highlights the Man on Fire adaptation that sees Yahya Abdul‑Mateen II stepping into Denzel Washington's shoes, the fifth and final season of The Witcher, the third season of Nobody Wants This, and sophomore runs for Avatar: The Last Airbender, 3 Body Problem and Beef, as well as the animated Stranger Things spin-off Tales From '85.

The viral "Conformity Gate" theory claimed the finale "The Rightside Up" was not the show's real ending, but there was never concrete proof. Fans expressed disappointment after Netflix posted its 2026 slate on the day many had anticipated a surprise, and some said they would wait until midnight to be sure no additional episode appears.
