Netflix's 7-Part 10/10 Thriller Series Has No Bad Episodes
There is a house in Westfield, New Jersey, that will ruin the life of anyone who makes the mistake of living in it. That house anchors Netflix's hidden gem The Watcher, a 2022 limited series from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The Brannock family buy their dream home and immediately begin receiving threatening letters from someone calling themselves The Watcher, who claims to have surveilled the property for decades and uses disturbing phrases like "young blood." Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale play the parents, with Jennifer Coolidge, Mia Farrow, Margo Martindale and Richard Kind filling the neighborhood with unsettling energy.
The show's biggest structural trick is delivering a single "wait, WHAT" moment in each episode. Dead pets, secret rooms, strange noises, odd real estate agents and a possible cul-de-sac cult surface as the series peels back layers of who might be behind the letters.
By Episode 4 the tone tilts between thriller and very dark comedy, and the answers only grow stranger. The cast keeps the twists grounded.
