Movieweb reports Netflix has moved forward with two more feature films based on Emily Henry novels, acquiring the film rights to Funny Story and converting the previously announced Happy Place from a planned television series into a feature; the deal was made on Jan. 8, 2026. People We Meet on Vacation debuted on Netflix on Jan.

9, 2026, stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, and has earned an 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes while being described by some as a "When Harry Met Sally for Gen-Z." Variety reports Netflix picked up Funny Story, which began development in 2024; Alex Black of Lyrical Media said, "Emily Henry has a gift for creating characters that truly connect with audiences, and it’s no surprise her books have resonated with so many.

We’re excited to be following up People You Meet on Vacation and collaborating with her on Funny Story — it’s going to be such a thrill bringing her beloved characters to the big screen." Henry is writing the Funny Story script herself and no director or cast are attached. Happy Place, released in April 2023, follows a recently separated couple who pretend to still be together for one last summer trip; Bridgerton producer Leila Cohan had been set up as showrunner for the series and Jennifer Lopez's Nuyorican Productions remains attached, but there is no word on whether Cohan will stay with the project now that it is a feature.
