Netflix's BioShock movie gets production update
Producer Roy Lee said in an interview with Collider that Netflix's live-action BioShock will move forward once director Francis Lawrence finishes his work on The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Lee added that Netflix and game publisher Take-Two are "anxious" to time the film's release to coincide with potential new incarnations of the game.
Lee indicated the plan is to begin filming in 2027, with the hope the movie could arrive on Netflix in 2028. He noted earlier scheduling delays were caused by other projects that required Lawrence's attention.
Announced in 2022 and based on the 2007 game about a man attempting to escape the underwater city of Rapture, the adaptation has been reworked into a smaller, more personal story after budget cuts. Francis Lawrence is attached to direct, Michael Green wrote the script, and Roy Lee and Cameron MacConomy are producing.
