Netflix Blocks Ad-Tier Access to David Ayer's WWII Film Fury
World War II films continue to draw audiences — recent titles such as Nuremberg, HBO's Band of Brothers and the action sequel Sisu: Road to Revenge have all found strong followings on PVOD and streaming. Even so, one of the era's most prominent recent hits is becoming harder to reach for Netflix viewers this month.
David Ayer's Fury, which enjoyed a successful theatrical run in 2014, follows a tank crew that ventures deep into enemy territory and endures the horrors of war. The film, headlined by Brad Pitt with Jon Bernthal, Shia LaBeouf and Michael Peña in supporting roles and Logan Lerman as the inexperienced soldier audience surrogate, was produced on a reported $80 million budget and grossed more than $210 million worldwide.
