If you're looking for the best thriller on Netflix right now, you really should stop scrolling past Bodyguard. The six-episode BBC series is leaner, meaner, and more emotionally compelling than anything the algorithm is currently pushing at you. Created by Jed Mercurio, Bodyguard follows David Budd (Richard Madden), a decorated war veteran turned police protection officer assigned to guard Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes), the UK's ambitious, polarizing Home Secretary.

The catch is that he fundamentally disagrees with everything she stands for, and Hawes makes Montague formidable, injecting an unknowable quality that keeps the audience second-guessing itself. The show is built around a web of overlapping conspiracies: a political power play over Montague's sweeping new surveillance legislation, actors within her own orbit who want her humiliated, forces who want her dead, and at least one person in Budd's immediate circle whose loyalties are not what they appear to be.
