Netflix releases first trailer for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon crime thriller The Rip
Collider reports Netflix has released the first official trailer for The Rip, a Miami-set crime thriller starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon about a group of cops who discover a stash of drugs worth millions and cannot agree on what to do with it.
The film will be released only on Netflix on January 16, 2026 and will not receive a theatrical release; the streamer has tested this model on other films such as Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and A House of Dynamite. Joe Carnahan directed The Rip and co-wrote the script with Michael McGrale, and the runtime is listed as 133 minutes. The supporting cast includes Teyana Taylor, Steven Yeun, Sasha Calle, Kyle Chandler and Scott Adkins.
What’s next: the trailer is now available and the film streams in January. Damon and Affleck also have other 2026 projects—Damon will star as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey on July 17, 2026, while Affleck will direct and star in the kidnapping thriller Animals, which has no release date but has wrapped production and is likely angling for late 2026; Animals is said to include Steven Yeun, Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson.
