Netflix secret codes unlock thousands more titles — here’s how to use them
Kerry Wan at ZDNET reports that Netflix hides a large catalog of shows and movies behind numeric category codes that let users access hidden subgenres via the Netflix website and some browser extensions. The article says Netflix’s algorithm-based menus limit what most viewers see, but resources such as Netflix-Codes and What’s On Netflix list thousands of these category codes.
Examples Wan cites include "Deep Sea Horror Movies" (45028), "Feel-good Sports Movies for Ages 8 to 10" (855), "Martial Arts Movies" (8985) and "Fantasy Anime" (11146); categories can be browsed alphabetically or searched by keyword. Wan outlines a simple PC/tablet method: sign in on the Netflix website, open What's On Netflix to find a code, then enter the URL https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/ and append the chosen code to access that category.
The article also names two browser extensions that add hidden menus: FindFlix (Firefox/Chrome) and Better Browse for Netflix (Chrome only). The article notes conflicting reports about entering codes directly in the Netflix app and recommends using a web browser to find titles, then adding them to My List to watch in the app.
Wan says there are over 4,100 distinct codes to date; "best estimates" put the US catalog at upward of 6,700 titles with more than 50% being Netflix Originals.
