Neuromancer: Apple TV+ Brings Gibson's Cyberpunk to Life
Apple TV+ is adapting William Gibson’s Neuromancer, with J.D. Dillard directing and Graham Roland showrunning. The series stars Callum Turner and Briana Middleton, with Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard among the cast. Filming began in January 2025 to mark the novel’s 41st anniversary, and production spans Tokyo, Istanbul, Los Angeles, and London; Gibson has served as a consultant.
Gibson wrote Neuromancer in 1984 and coined the term cyberpunk as he imagined a world that once felt distant. The novel won the Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards and is widely regarded as the most influential science fiction novel of the last half-century, laying the groundwork for digital underworlds, corporate-controlled futures, and morally compromised antiheroes.
It had never been adapted—until now. Live-action cyberpunk has often missed the mark on television, while the genre’s strongest entries—Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners—have been animated.
