New Marathon update brings players closer to unlocking Cryo Archive

Bungie's new FPS has added a mysterious area to the menu, a sign that the ongoing ARG may be nearing its end and that access to the Cryo Archive map is approaching. The Archive is the latest, and reportedly trickiest, destination players are trying to unlock. The path to the map has been built around seven distinct puzzles.

Players have been solving each layer in turn to open the next one, with the seventh puzzle pointing toward this fourth map. Getting started on some of the challenges required a hint from the developers, and the tasks have pushed many to dig into the game's lore.

Progress through the six factions—Cyberacme, Nucaloric, Traxus, Mida, Arachne and Sekiguchi—will put players much closer to unlocking the final step. The high barrier to entry means those putting in the hours will be the first to explore the new playground, which should cut down on trolling, though it may not eliminate it entirely.
