Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy introduced the Fair Prices for Local Businesses Act to curb special pricing deals that leave smaller competitors paying more. The proposal would give small businesses and federal regulators more legal tools to challenge arrangements that favor large companies.

The bill follows an FTC lawsuit that alleged PepsiCo helped Walmart underprice rivals by tracking competitors’ prices and trying to raise them at other stores. That lawsuit was dropped after President Donald Trump began his second term. Murphy would extend the same protections to services such as food delivery apps, including Uber Eats and DoorDash, to prevent them from striking deals that disadvantage local shops and restaurants.

Federal antitrust authorities have not accused delivery apps of price manipulation; these platforms charge restaurants and retailers fees to sell through their marketplaces, and Uber Eats charges up to 30% per order and recently increased its fees.
