New 'Super Mario Galaxy Movie' Clip Shows Mario's First Meeting With Yoshi

Universal released two clips from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on the Today show less than a month before the film's Apr. 1 release. The sequel follows 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie and brings back most of the main cast while adding new voices, including Donald Glover as Yoshi.

The first clip appears to show one of Mario's earliest encounters with Yoshi. Chris Pratt's Mario, wearing a white-and-red suit from a fire flower power-up, reaches out; Yoshi hides under rubble, then emerges, purring and nuzzling Mario. The second clip cuts to Mario and Luigi racing through a desert on motorcycles with the Tostarena theme from Super Mario Odyssey playing.

This extended footage highlights the desert city of Tostarena, where the brothers are called in to investigate a roar from a dark cave. Both clips hint at how the film expands the Mario universe, showing Yoshi's ability to pull others into his mouth and spit them out as eggs and introducing new worlds like Tostarena.
