Newcastle United are intensifying their search for a new number nine, with Chelsea strikers Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap emerging as primary targets. The Magpies have struggled to replace Alexander Isak after his move to Liverpool last September for £125 million, and neither Yoane Wissa nor Nick Woltemade have fully convinced as a leading option.

Recent tactical choices—deploying Will Osula and Anthony Gordon centrally against Barcelona while Wissa and Woltemade were available—underlined the need for a new focal point. Woltemade, signed from Stuttgart in August 2025 for £65 million, has 11 goals in 44 games; Wissa, who arrived from Brentford last summer for £50 million, managed three goals in 21 appearances after an early knee injury.

Jackson, who joined Bayern Munich on loan from Chelsea last summer, has seven goals in 26 appearances and remains well regarded in Bavaria; there is still a possibility of him returning to Germany in a secondary role to Harry Kane.
