Actor Nicholas Brendon, known for his roles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Criminal Minds, has died at 54. His family released a statement saying he passed in his sleep of natural causes and noted his recent passion for painting and art. They asked for privacy as they grieve.

Brendon rose to international fame as Xander Harris on all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, appearing in all but one episode. The character, who lacked supernatural ability, often provided comic relief and a more grounded perspective on the show’s supernatural world.

A planned revival was canceled by Hulu before the new season could begin airing. He later became a fan favorite on Criminal Minds for his portrayal of Kevin Lynch, a technical analyst and long-term love interest for Penelope Garcia, appearing in 21 episodes. Brendon began his career with small roles on Married...with Children and Dave’s World and amassed 46 credits, his last being the 2024 horror movie Christmas Slasher.
