Nick Woltemade a major doubt for Newcastle’s Man Utd clash with sickness bug
A sickness outbreak at Darsley Park has disrupted Newcastle United's preparations for Wednesday's visit from Manchester United. Striker Nick Woltemade has missed several days of training, leaving Eddie Howe to manage a depleted squad as the Magpies try to arrest a recent slump in Premier League form.
Woltemade, who arrived from Stuttgart in a £69 million move, has been unable to take part in first-team preparations. While some players have shaken off the mystery ailment quickly, his condition remains precarious as the medical team monitors his recovery; Jacob Ramsey, who left the Everton match at the interval, has since returned to training.
Howe said: "There’s obviously something, an illness, potentially there in the squad, because Nick Woltemade's gone down ill and we haven’t seen him for a couple of days. Let’s see, we’ll give him every chance." He also warned that Tino Livramento, while progressing in rehab, is likely too soon to return for the quick turnaround.
