Nico Schlotterbeck seems to be leaning towards staying at BVB
The question at Borussia Dortmund is whether Nico Schlotterbeck will leave or stay, and a new trend is emerging. A round of talks last Monday between his agent Björn Etzel and BVB officials Sebastian Kehl and Lars Ricken created a fresh dynamic, and the 23-cap Germany international now appears more inclined to extend his contract.
BVB’s decision to extend Felix Nmecha’s contract has been an important signal, and Schlotterbeck has taken a positive view of the shake-up prompted by the departures of Julian Brandt, Niklas Süle and Salih Özcan. He has also welcomed plans to put greater emphasis on wing play.
If he signs a new deal—his current contract runs until 2027—Dortmund would retain an undisputed leader and mentor for younger players such as Luca Reggiani. There is talk of at least doubling his reported current annual salary of five to six million euros, with 14 million euros often cited, and of a release clause that could allow him to leave for 60 million euros from the summer of 2027, provided he extends first.
