Game Freak announced Pokémon Winds and Waves, the games that will kick off the next generation on Switch 2 next year. The trailer opens with a cinematic of illustrations showing Pikachu traveling through the regions of the nine previous generations; a trainer flips through a scrapbook that ends on an image of Pikachu looking out a window to a beach, which becomes the scene we’re in.

The trainer then opens their door to two glammed-up, darker Pikachu named Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu. They appear notably darker than a typical Pikachu and might be Shiny, and their names hint they could be tied to different versions, though their role in the story is still unclear.

Winds and Waves looks like a graphical step up from Scarlet and Violet, with environments that show more texture and character. The new region feels more nature-driven than recent entries, with relatively few human structures, suggesting a possible shift toward wild exploration rather than dense cityscapes.
