Noah Kahan, James Blake: 9 Songs We’re Talking About This Week
If Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show was anyone’s first exposure to Latin pop, it shouldn’t be the last. A diverse and rewarding hemisphere of music awaits, and language should be no barrier. This week brings new releases from both stalwarts and rising stars of Latin pop, and English speakers have been busy, too.
Sting turns up on a new song by Argentine duo Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, whose 2025 EP “Papota” just won a Grammy. On “Hasta Jesus Tuvo un Mal Dia” he translates “Even Jesus had his bad days,” and counsels, “Don’t give up yet,” over a backbeat and guitar chords that recall the Police; it’s the first single from an album, “Free Spirits,” due March 19.
Also new: a slow-rolling neo-soul duet from Baby Rose featuring Leon Thomas, and Jorge Drexler’s candombe-rooted single “Toco Madera” from his album “Taracá.” Ratboys’ “Light Night Mountains All That” opens serenely before sliding into feedback and distortion as Julia Steiner vents frustration.
