Noahkai Banks 'very torn' over international future
Noahkai Banks says he is "very torn" over his international future as he weighs options with the U.S. men's national team and Germany. The Augsburg centre back was in USMNT camp in the fall but did not earn a cap and remains eligible for both nations after featuring on various U.S.
youth teams since 2023. Born in Honolulu to an American father and a German mother, Banks spent most of his childhood in Germany and rose through to FC Augsburg's first team. He continued his strong run of form this week, providing the assist for Augsburg's opening goal in a 2-0 win over FC Koln with a powerful forward run that led to the cross.
Banks has started 18 Bundesliga matches this season and come off the bench twice, a consistency that has intensified interest in his international decision. “It’s a difficult decision regarding my nationality. I’m very torn,” he told Sky Sports Germany. He said he is speaking with both national coaches and plans to discuss the choice carefully with his family, not wanting to base it solely on a World Cup.
