Noem declines to explain how administration will ensure fair probe after ICE shooting
Independent.co reports CNN host Jake Tapper pressed DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to explain how the administration would guarantee a fair investigation into Jonathan Ross, an ICE agent seen on video shooting Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis last week. The footage shows Ross calling Good a "f***ing b****" on his own phone before firing into her vehicle as it appears to turn away; whether the officer was struck by the car is unclear.
Noem repeatedly blamed Democrats and the media for prejudging the officer’s guilt and insisted the officer fired "to protect himself," but did not answer Tapper’s question about whether the administration’s staunch defense might taint the investigation. During the interview Noem deflected questions, criticised Mayor Frey and Rep.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for speaking before facts were known, and altered her earlier description that officers were "attempting to push out their vehicle" and had been "attacked." The shooting prompted hundreds of thousands of Americans to protest across the country, and public sentiment appears to be shifting: a poll reported by Axios found ICE’s reputation deteriorating and support for abolishing the agency narrowing the gap with opposition.
