Noem says ‘hundreds more’ federal agents will deploy to Minneapolis after ICE shooting
The Trump administration will send "hundreds more" federal agents to Minneapolis "today and tomorrow" to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, days after an ICE agent shot and killed a woman, Renee Good, in the city. Noem cited a major welfare fraud scandal linked to Minnesota's Somali community as a reason for the deployment, saying a vast majority of those charged since 2022 were U.S.
citizens by birth or naturalization. She called the operation a mission "to uncover the true corruption and theft that has happened" on Fox News's "Sunday Morning Futures," and described Minneapolis as "the ground zero for stealing of taxpayer dollars and protecting criminals," without citing specific examples.
Noem also said some nonprofits were being investigated for their funding and claimed they had trained protesters to impede law enforcement and "weaponize" vehicles, without offering evidence. Democrats have sharply criticized the administration's response to the shooting: Senator Tina Smith said on ABC's "This Week" that the administration was orchestrating a "cover-up" by blocking state investigators, and she said Noem had rushed to blame Ms.
Good. The investigation into Ms. Good's death is still underway. A New York Times video analysis appears to show Ms. Good turning away from the officer as he opened fire; video cited in the report shows agents approaching Ms.
