The Royal House of Norway has temporarily restricted comments on its official Instagram and Facebook pages, the palace told Norwegian outlet Dagbladet. The Royal House's Head of Communications, Guri Varpe, said the measure was put in place because many comments violated ethical guidelines; comments on recent posts involving Crown Princess Mette‑Marit have been disabled and Facebook commenting has been limited.

The change followed the U.S. Department of Justice release of additional materials related to Jeffrey Epstein that included emails and other items naming Crown Princess Mette‑Marit. Norwegian reporting said she was mentioned in over one thousand files, and the Crown Princess issued a statement apologizing for her contacts, saying she had shown poor judgment and expressing sympathy for the victims.

The move comes as her son, Marius Borg Høiby, faces trial in Oslo on multiple charges, including counts of rape; he has pleaded not guilty. Court reporting said he broke down while testifying and described sustained media harassment.
