Oakley Meta Vanguard smart glasses outperformed Ray-Bans on a 5-mile walk
The Oakley Meta Vanguard arrives as a fitness-focused smart glass option priced from $499, pairing a visor-style Sphaera look with the tech of earlier Meta models. New touches include a centered camera for less-angled POV shots, a customizable action button and integrations with Garmin and Strava for workout overlays and tracking.
Under the hood the Vanguards share key specs with the HSTNs: IP67 resistance, a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 3K recording, slow-motion and hyperlapse modes, two open-ear speakers and a five-microphone array. Audio held up well for music, messages and calls on a two-hour walk, but battery life under heavy use fell from 99% to 71% in an hour—a 28% drain compared with Meta’s roughly 10% claim—so expect real-world runtimes to be shorter than advertised.
Fitness integrations can add overlays from Strava and pull data from Garmin when linked through the Meta AI app, and features like autocapture aim to record milestones automatically.
