Former President Barack Obama this weekend indirectly addressed a racist video posted earlier this month by President Trump that depicted Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle, as apes. On Brian Tyler Cohen’s "No Lie" podcast, Mr. Obama described a "devolution of the discourse," calling what he called a "clown show" on social media and television evidence that a sense of decorum and respect for the office has been lost.

He added that the majority of Americans find such behavior deeply troubling, and said he still encountered people who believe in decency, courtesy and kindness. Mr. Obama did not directly address the clip, which was deleted from Mr. Trump’s account after it prompted rare bipartisan outrage.

Mr. Trump has refused to apologize, saying he "didn’t make a mistake," that he had not seen the entire clip and that someone else had posted it on his account.
