A strange rumor has surfaced that some male ski jumpers inject hyaluronic acid into their penises to gain a small advantage. The claim began after German newspaper Bild reported in January that athletes were injecting the acid before being measured for skin-tight suits; the injections are said to increase circumference by about one to two centimetres.

"Every extra centimetre on a suit counts. If your suit has a 5 percent bigger surface area, you fly further," ski jumping men’s race director Sandro Pertile said. Jumpers are 3D scanned and measured before the season to create skin-tight suits, and measurements include the amount of fabric around the crotch.

In theory, a bit more girth could provide extra fabric and slightly longer flight distance. There is no evidence this is occurring at the Winter Olympics.
