Ohio shelter to host party for dog who will reach 1,500 days without an adopter
People reports that PAWS Humane Society in Wilmington, Ohio, is hosting a birthday party on Jan. 24 for Percy, an American Staffordshire terrier who will have spent 1,500 days in the shelter on Jan. 23.
In a Facebook invite, PAWS wrote, "You are invited to Percy's Birthday PAW-ty. Please join us and meet Percy as we celebrate him on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the PAWS shelter, 5312 N. U.S. Highway 68, Wilmington. RSVP please." The event is intended to draw attention to Percy's long wait and to highlight other long-term shelter dogs.
PAWS told WDTN that Percy is estimated to be about 8 years old, meaning he has spent roughly half his life in the shelter. His adoption profile says he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and house-trained; he is not compatible with homes that already have other dogs or cats but is friendly with people and enjoys sunbathing, belly rubs, treats and toys. Volunteers call him "the bestest boy," and staff say he is calm on a leash and during car rides. PAWS added that Percy's adoption fee is covered.
PAWS said it hopes the event will help Percy find a forever home. To learn more about Percy and PAWS Humane Society, Inc., the shelter directs interested people to the nonprofit's website.
