Oliver Glasner announced at a press conference previewing Saturday’s trip to Sunderland that he will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season and confirmed that captain Marc Guéhi’s move to Manchester City "is poised to go ahead". The decision follows a turbulent period for Palace: Glasner led the club to their first major trophy by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup nearly eight months ago, but the week also included a humiliating defeat by non-league Macclesfield and the club’s demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League amid a dispute with Uefa over multi-club ownership.

Glasner had previously voiced deep frustration at Palace’s failure to reinvest the record £67.5m received for Eberechi Eze and urged the club not to become "one-hit wonders," insisting he was "100% here." Glasner, who has clashed with directors over transfers at previous clubs, had been involved in decisions over Guéhi, including keeping him for the first half of the season when a move to Liverpool seemed likely.

Palace accepted £20m from Manchester City for Guéhi, the article says, described as a £15m loss compared with what Liverpool had been prepared to pay five months earlier. Glasner told the club’s chair, Steve Parish, in October that he wanted to pursue a new challenge and said he had considered announcing his departure earlier to avoid rumours about his motives.
