Olivia Munn said the best advice she received from Shannen Doherty during her cancer battle was simple: “just be so aggressive.” The two became close in the months before Doherty died after her long fight with breast cancer that had metastasized to her bones and brain.

Speaking at Los Angeles Magazine’s The L.A. Woman Luncheon, where she was honored as Woman of The Year, Munn described her own journey and urged women to take the Tyrer‑Cuzick breast cancer risk assessment. She recalled a clear mammogram and ultrasound in January 2023 and a zero percent result on a genetic mutation test, yet her risk assessment returned 37.3 percent — well above the 20 percent threshold considered high risk — and an MRI months later found Luminal B cancer in both breasts.

Munn underwent five surgeries during treatment, including a lymph node dissection, nipple delay, double mastectomy with reconstruction, an oophorectomy and a partial hysterectomy, finishing her surgeries in April 2025.
