I travelled by train from New York to Eastern Canada for seven days carrying only a 32‑liter backpack. My route took me from NYC to Niagara Falls (I walked into Niagara Falls, Canada), then by bus to Toronto and by train to Montreal and Quebec City, spending one night in each city and flying home to New York.

I stayed in a mix of Airbnbs and luxury hotels and did most exploring on foot. The bag held my work computer, camera, chargers, a tripod, toiletries and medications, one packing cube of clothing, a raincoat, a tote, and a pair of comfy shoes. Laundry sheets and quick‑dry shirts, shorts and pants (mostly from Under Armour or Prana) made sink washes and air‑drying on balconies or porches easy — most items dried in under 20 minutes.

Socks, however, took much longer to dry; I brought five pairs and often ended up waiting to leave until they were usable. I also realised I should have packed pajamas.
