Nearly a dozen 2025 films vied for honors at the 98th Academy Awards, led by Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which set the record for most Oscar nominations by a single film with 16 and kept Coogler and stars Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld in the spotlight. Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another drew praise for its performances and action sequences and won the 2026 Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy. Other notable contenders included Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet (the 2026 Golden Globe winner for Best Drama), and Joseph Kosinski’s F1.

The Academy awarded Best Picture to One Battle After Another, which was both written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Of the 13 Academy Award nominations the film received, it took home six, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Casting, and Best Film Editing.

The win marks Anderson’s second Oscar, this one for Best Director for the same movie.
