One of 50 Tsukihime trial floppy disks destroyed in transit
A rare pre-release trial version of the visual novel Tsukihime by Type-Moon arrived damaged after transit. X user Keripo posted an image and video on Feb. 26 showing one of only 50 copies of the trial edition; the floppy disk was utterly destroyed. "US Customs had removed all the bubble wrap and physically destroyed the floppy disk. Will file a report but literally crying right now," Keripo wrote on X.
Keripo said someone had opened the package and taken the floppy apart, and noted that it is not clear who was responsible—Occam's Razor suggests the package was flagged for a search. "Today, an important piece of history has been lost forever... (╥_╥)," they added.
They submitted a formal letter of inquiry to US Customs and said they want to raise awareness so similar losses do not happen to other collectors. The incident underlines that while discussions about digital storefronts highlight preservation gaps, physical games remain vulnerable to vandalism and destruction.
