One Piece fans close to finding the real-world treasure
A couple of days after One Piece marked a milestone — the manga selling over 600 million copies — creator Eiichiro Oda staged an unusual stunt. He wrote the nature of the One Piece treasure on paper, sealed it in a container and dropped it to the sea floor, 651 meters deep.
The stunt video declared, "The truth will rest far beyond anyone's reach." Fans quickly dissected the short clip and, within two days, narrowed the likely location to a small area in Sagami Bay, south of Kanagawa Prefecture in central Japan. People are pooling funds, and streamer IShowSpeed has said he will try to find the chest and livestream the attempt.
Observers note that more motivated millionaires could join the effort soon. Eiichiro Oda has effectively started what the piece calls a real-world Great Pirate Era. Echoing Gol D. Roger in Loguetown, Oda's stunt invited anyone who wants the treasure: "My treasure?
