One-third of consumers don't want AI on their devices, report finds
Reporting by Pcgamer notes a Circana report found that among people who don't want AI on their devices, nearly two-thirds said their devices already perform the tasks they need and they simply do not need AI capabilities.
The report identified other reasons for rejection: 59% of those opposed cited privacy concerns, 43% were not interested in paying more for AI-enabled devices, and 15% said the technology seemed too complicated.
The survey did not reflect a universal rejection of AI: 65% of respondents said they are interested in having AI capabilities on at least one device, rising to 82% among 18-24-year-olds and then declining among older groups.
The article observes that new technologies are often adopted earlier by younger people, using a VCR anecdote, and the author expressed personal concerns about AI's impacts, describing it as intrusive, destructive, unreliable, and resource-intensive.
