Dexter has remained one of the most popular slasher shows since it ended in 2013, but its renaissance arrived when Netflix added the series. It spent months atop streaming charts as viewers discovered a thriller that centers on the killer—who targets people who have already done awful things—rather than the police trying to catch him.

The streaming surge led Paramount to greenlight several spin-offs beginning in 2024. Dexter: New Blood returned in 2021 but was widely discarded by fans and is often treated as non-canon. In November 2024 the prequel Dexter: Original Sin, led by Patrick Gibson, appeared but a planned second season was later canceled, and a proposed Trinity Killer spinoff that would have brought back John Lithgow was also scrapped.

That leaves Dexter: Resurrection—the series that brought Michael C. Hall back and moves the story to New York—as the lone offshoot still producing new episodes.
